General Links The Philosophers' Magazine This link takes you to the excellent "Philosophy of Religion" section of the Philosophers' Magazine website. Click here for the Ethics pages. You could also try Philosophy Now, another Philosophy magazine. For an article from Philosophy Now on Alvin Plantinga's Contribution to the Philosophy of Religion, click here. AS Guru Visit the AS Guru pages on the BBC Education Website - the General Studies section contains some useful background information on Religion in Britain today. The Vale of Tears Many students are looking for on-line support for their A Level work in RS, and have used the resources on this site. Some students, however, are following a different specification, and are concentrating on New Testament Studies. The Vale of Tears is based in King's School Peterborough, and provides excellent resources for NT courses. Chigwell School A Level Website The Chigwell School Website features a host of useful resources. Not all are relevant because they follow a different board. Follow the link to the AS Intro page, and explore from there! Durham University Philosophy Links The Durham Philosophy Department has an excellent reputation - this is a link to their on-line resources on a wide variety of Philosophical issues. CSBJSU Online Library The site includes a lot of "recommended reading"! Philosophy Comix I doubt that these cartoons will help with your understanding of the Philosophy and Ethics course, but they will bring a smile. Not all the links work, but this is well worth a visit! BELIEVE BELIEVE is a collection of around 1,500 articles by scholars on around 700 religious subjects. This site offers a collection of articles and texts on a huge range of topics associated with the Christian faith. Wes Morriston's Lecture Notes This site belongs to Wes Morriston at the University of Colorado. There are some useful notes on many of the topics we study in the Philosophy sections of the A Level Course. Philosophy in Cyberspace An on-line philosophy resource operated by the wonderfully named "Monash University". The London Group of the Philosophical Society of England It's a bit of a mouthful, but the site includes some fascinating discussion notes. Use it as an introduction to issues and topics. Some of it is "tongue in cheek", and some very useful! The site's hosts offer the opportunity to participate in e-mail discussions. Click here for an investigation of the philosophical implications in the Hitch-hikers Guide to the Galaxy. Skeptics Magazine Visit this on-line magazine for a suitably skeptical view of the world. In particular, look for articles about the relationship between Science and Religion! Faith and Philosophy This is a magazine run by Christian academics for the study of the Philosophy of Religion. Articles can be a bit academic, but it's worth a look for something useful! The Sea of Faith This is a site devoted to a movement that argues for a secular view of religion. Take a look if you want to find out about less traditional ideas of God. The Glory that was Greece This is a useful site that includes on-line biographies of the Ancient Greek philosophers, along with readers' contributions - useful for background to the AS Foundation Paper. Philosophy and Literature "Lewis James Hammond’s idiosyncratic and imaginative website features conversations with dead thinkers and introductions to the classics for people who are too busy to read them" - it says here! Find out for yourself! Ally McBeal This takes you to the Ally McBeal website. We use various episodes from the Ally McBeal series in our work! Follow the links to the programme summaries. "The Arts and Letters Daily" Updated regularly, this site includes a vast collection of the best in writing from around the world. There are articles on Philosophy, Ethics, Literature, Politics and more. The Edge "The mandate of EDGE Foundation is to promote inquiry into and discussion of intellectual, philosophical, artistic, and literary issues, as well as to work for the intellectual and social achievement of society." - It also contains links to useful articles on a wide variety of philosophical issues. Philosophy Papers This site offers papers on various Philosophy topics, though there is a charge per page. Sixth Formers will not find this particularly useful, though teachers may find a resource that they need! Philosophical Humour This isn't as bad as it sounds! It includes a lesson in logic from Beavis and Buthead, and Jerry Springer on Philosophy. How many existential philosophers does it take to change a lightbulb? Two. One to change the lightbulb and one to observe how the lightbulb symbolizes an incandescent beacon of subjectivity in a netherworld of Cosmic Nothingness Hmmm! |
