As you walk around the streets of Norwich, you should have noticed people sat in shop doorways on blankets. You should have also noticed people selling copies of The Big Issue. This is just the part of Homelessness that you can see - there is much more to the issue of Homelessness.

Most poeple think that Homelessness is a big city problem. Norwich has just as much of a problem as most other cities and large towns in the UK. Anyone who cannot claim an address, or who is not in permanent accommodation, is homeless. This means that everyone from the young man you see bedding down in a shop doorway on London Street to a family in B&B accommodation is homeless.

Shelter
Shelter is probably the best known Homelessness Charity. Visit their site for information about their work across the UK, and about their political campaigns to improve life for the homeless. For facts and figures about Homelessness, click here

The Big Issue
This is the "Street Newspaper" that is sold by the Homeless on the streets of several cities in the UK. IT began in London, but you can buy a copy from vendors in Norwich. Crisis
Crisis is another well-known Homelessness Charity. They are best known for opening disused warehouses as temporary shelters over Christmas - click here to visit Crisis at Christmas

St Martin's Housing Trust
St Martin's is based in Norwich, and runs drop in centres and hostels for the Homeless of the City.

Voluntary Hostels Group
The VHG co-ordinates some of the Homelessness Charities across East Anglia. Follow the link to reasearch their work.

Anglia Housing Association
Anglia owns much of the "Social Housing" in our areaThey claim to "Promoting community wellbeing through the provision of high quality affordable housing and caring services." Follow the link to their website, but navigate it carefully - a lot of it is financial reports and governmental documents!
