Although you might not think it, Britain is a relatively free country. In some countries people can find themselves imprisoned simply for criticising their government in a chat in a cafe. If it weren't for organisations like Amnesty International, many of these violations of basic human rights would go un-noticed. Many schools have an Amnesty group, and they help in the campaign to support people who find themselves imprisoned for campaigns for justice and fairness.

Amnesty International
Amnesty began in 1961. British Lawyer Peter Benenson heard about two Portuguese Students who had received seven year prison sentences simply for raising their glasses "to freedom". Amnesty is internationally respected for its campaigns for human rights throughout the World.
