Physics and Religion These are sites useful for researching the challenge posed by modern Physics to the claims of Religion. Note that this is no longer a unit in the OCR A Level course! I've left it on because I like the pictures on the Hubble Telescope site! NASA I can't find any information directly relating to the debate between science and religion here, but no study of the Universe can be complete without a look at NASA. Click here to see the latest pictures from the Hubble Telescope! Remember that F. R. Tennant argued that a sense of God's presence can be detected in natural phenomena when we see things as being beautiful - the pictures from the Hubble are certainly breathtaking! The Elegant Universe Recently Channel 4 has screened a series presented by Brian Greene of Columbia University in the US. The programmes looked at the ideas behind String Theory, and included an attempt to explain the 11 dimensions proposed by the theory. This link is to the excellent PBS Website, where you can even watch the series on your computer (though you will need a broadband connection!). The Vatican Observatory Click here to visit the site for the Vatican's own astronomical observatory. The Lawrence Berkley Laboratory This is a link to an on-line service with tutorials and quizzes about Galaxies. New Scientist Click here to visit the on-line version of the Science Magazine. Flat Universe This is an article about the announcement that scientists now think that the Universe is flat. Intelligent Design This is a variation of Paley's Argument From Design - there is a movement to have the theory included alongside (or even instead of) Evolution and the Big Bang. The BBC has a news story about this - click here. |
