The Year Nine Course has two units of work. You will spend some time studying Judaism, and especially the Holocaust. You will also look at some Personal and Social Issues, particularly those affecting the Family. You will look at Marriage and Divorce, and at the various aspects of Family Life. You may also have some time to consider beliefs about Life after Death, and to look at the work of Charities in the Developing World.

Comic Relief
This lot should need no introduction - the amazing success of Red Nose Day this year is a sign of the importance of Comic Relief's work!

Christian Aid
Follow this link to the organisation that represents the Churches of the UK in action in the Developing World. They have a webiste specifically for students who are researching the Developing World - click here to go to the Global Gang Website.

Oxfam
Oxfam has become famous for its work in the Developing World, as well as for its Charity Shops in this country. This site contains a wealth of information about the work of this influential Charity. Make sure that you visit the Cool Planet site. There's details of celeb support, on-line activities and even a grafitti wall.

Jubilee 2000
This important organisation has been campaigning for the cancellation of the debt owed by the world's poorest countries.

Tear FundTear Fund is a Christian organisation working to help the poorest people in the World to achieve a reasonable standard of living.

CAFOD
The Roman Catholic Church has a charity that works in the Developing World. Find out more with this site.

The Hunger Site
This is an interesting site - an on-line approach to World Hunger. Clicking on their adverts earns them money to fund their work. If for no other reason, visit the site for its shocking world map. A country blinks every 3.6 seconds to indicate the global death rate from hunger! 75% of the deaths are children. Makes you think!

Water Aid
"Water Aid is the only UK charity which is dedicated exclusively to the provision of saffe domestic water, sanitation and hygiene promotion to the World's poorest people".

Water Matters
Water Matters is a joint initiative by Tear Fund and WaterAid. The site hioghlights the problem of access to clean drinking water throughout the Developing World

Fair Trade
This link takes you to the TSAS RPE Fair Trade page. You'll find links to the major charities, as well as to some specialist Fair Trade manufacturers. Chocolate lovers are especially encouraged to take a look!

The Simon Wiesenthal Centre.
Simon Wiesenthal has devoted his life to bringing the Nazis who escaped after WWII to Justice. He spent time in a Concentration Camp himself. The Wiesenthal Centre includes a vast amount of information, including the "Children of the Holocaust" pages.

The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum

The Imperial War Museum
There is an excellent new Exhibition at the IWM on the Holocaust, and this link takes you to the on-line resources that support the exhibition.

Frank Foley
Frank Foley was a British Spy working as a Passport Control Officer in Berlin just before WWII. He bent rules to give visas to thousands of Jewish people wanting to escape from the Nazi German rule. Recently a plaque was unveiled to remember his heroism. Read the story from the Independent of 25th November 2004. He died in Stourbridge (in the West Midlands) in 1958, and the town has a plaque to remember him - click here to read more. Another version of Foley's story is here.

The Jewish Virtual Library - The Holocaust
This site contains a wealth of information about various topics on the Holocaust. The link leads to a page of the Jewish Virtual Library (supported by a Charity that aims to improve cooperation between Israel and the US).

Beth Shalom
Beth Shalom is the UK's Holocaust Memorial Centre, based near Newark in Nottinghamshire. Years ago we ran a series of conferences on the Holocaust for Year 10, and we were proud to welcome two survivors from the camps, who now work as volunteers for the centre. This gives you a basic (and interactive) survey of the Holocaust. Recommended!

Holocaust Memorial Day
The Government instituted a Holocaust Memorial Day in order to provide a national mark of respect for all victims of Nazi persecution and demonstrate understanding with all those who still suffer its consequences

Badges of the Holocaust
This site is a part of the "Jewish Virtual Library". It shows examples of the various badges that Jews were forced to wear during the Holocaust, and also has some background to the Nuremburg Laws and their impact on people's lives.

Don't Let The Light Go Out
This is a part of the Holidays site - follow the link to see a multi-media exhibition in memory of the victims of the Holocaust. The video clips come from the "Lest We Forget" CD ROM that you might have used with the RE Department's computer.

The Church of England's "Preparing for Marriage" page
The Church of England has a page of advice for couples planning to get married. This helps them understand the processes that they must go through as they plan their Wedding. In 2000 the CofE issued a new Marriage Service for use in its Churches.

The Church of England's Marriage Service
The Church of England has published a new Marriage Service - it is a part of its new Prayer Book called "Common Worship". Follow this link to see the text of the Marriage Service from this new prayer book. This is the service that you are likely to find in the average Church wedding on most Saturdays!
